Puppy Ribbon at National

Ribbon BOB

RIBBON (Ch. Cheysuli's Liquid Silver)  Right from the beginning she was been a contender, with a BOB from the Puppy classes and a Group 3 in only her 5th show.  A matter of months later she won the prestigous Bred By Exhibitor class at the 2003 Southern California Specialty under breeder-judge Janet Robinson (see critique below), winning admiration from many breeders and exhibitors.  In 2004 at the CWCCA National Specialty, in the largest entry in the history of the breed (500), Ribbon made club/breed history by being the first blue merle bitch to win the coveted Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi title in the Megan Competition, a champions-only breeders' showcase; several days later, she was one of only 13 Cardigans to be honored with an Award of Merit in the tough BOB class under breeder-judge Cathy Ochs-Cline (critique below).  Now retired, in two small litters Ribbon has secured her standing by producing the #2 Cardigan in Canada, and the upcoming young special Cassidy, who finished his championship in five shows, including a BOB from the BBE class over a Top Ten-ranked special.

Ribbon wins the Megan

The Megan Competition is a prestigeous, formal, champions-only breeders' showcase held annually at our National Specialty, in which classes are divided by color. The judging panel is made up of three experienced breeders, with classes assigned by a random drawing. Ultimately the Finals judges must be unanimous in their selection of Best Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Having won in 2004, Ribbon is now ineligible for further Megan competition.

Award of Merit

One of nearly 140 Cardigans in the Best of Breed class at the 2004 National, Ribbon made it through all of the cuts and went on to bring home an Award of Merit from breeder-judge Cathy Ochs-Cline, one half of the well-known Phi-Vestavia kennel. Extreme humidity in St. Louis left us both hot and worn out; I let Ribbon relax for the AoM picture.

Judges' Critiques

2004 CWCCA National Specialty: BOB Class
Breeder-Judge Cathy Ochs-Cline

"What a cutie! This bitch was beautiful in the head and face and absolutely charming. Although she was busy dropping her coat all over the ring, this only made it easier for her sound structure and correct type to be seen. She moved with grace and ease and stood free-stacked perfectly. One to watch for in the future."

2003 CWCCSC Specialty: BBE Class
Breeder-Judge Janet Robinson

"An eye-catching blue merle with lovely head also of correct proportions and parallel planes, correct eye shape and set. Short hocks, moved smoothly, clean down and back. Showing and handled to perfection."
